Last summer Richard Thompson performed a stellar solo-show to a sold-out Hall grandstand, and this August we’re hugely excited to welcome him back with his superb Electric Trio.
Gawsworth will be a rare appearance between much larger 2018 festival dates for one of the world’s most critically acclaimed and prolific songwriters, who was named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All Time.
With a body of work that includes over 40 albums, multiple Grammy nominations, and numerous hit records, recent years have seen Richard Thompson headlining dates in Europe and the US, while also appearing with the likes of Bob Dylan on his Americanarama Tour (which culminated with the ‘voice of a generation’ performing Richard’s classic song 1952 Vincent Black Lightning).
A serial award-winner, and hugely influential artist himself, Richard and his mates virtually invented British Folk Rock, thanks to their founding of the groundbreaking Fairport Convention as teenagers in the 1960s. By the age of 21, he left Fairport to pursue his own career, followed by a decade-long musical partnership with his then-wife Linda, to over 30 years as a highly successful solo artist.
An incredible range of musicians, from Robert Plant to Don Henley to REM, have paid tribute to the Ivor Novello winner by recording his songs, and we can’t wait to welcome him to Gawsworth Hall for the third time.
(No Children under six years old may attend performances.)
